I am an Ofsted registered childminder and have been registered since 2006. My property is semi detached and is situated very close to a park, shops, schools, library and many other local amenities.
During the day, I use the whole ground floor and have a fully equipped playroom which leads onto the garden. This can be used by the children on a free flow basis. The children have access to a whole range of toys and play equipment in the playroom.
These include a wide range of craft activities including painting, play dough, drawing, chalking, glueing etc. Toys include bricks, building blocks, jigsaws, cars, a range of Little People toys, dressing up clothes and role play, cooker, tea set, play food, ICT toys, pushchairs and dolls to name but a few!! Outdoor play equipment includes playhouses, slides, small climbing frame, seesaws, trampolines, bikes, sand and water tray, painting facilities and other outside games. We also grow plants and vegetables from time to time.
Each child has a Learning Journal which is kept up to date with recorded observations, photos and the childs work.
All the children at my setting are valued and respected. I work hard to welcome all children into my home and to settle them in gradually by forming a trusting relationship so that they feel safe and secure. Each child is a unique individual and I believe that early relationships help children develop and learn. By forming this bond children can explore and become competent learners.
I have over the years attended numerous training courses to further my knowledge of childhood development and learning. These certificates are produced for inspection when parents visit my setting for the first time. I hold an NVQ Level 3 in early years and education. I evaluate my setting regularly by questioning myself, the children and their parents and take appropriate action to improve my setting. I have a car which allows me to attend various places with children, and sometimes we take the bus. This helps to develop the childrens learning. We walk to school and other early years settings daily, learning as we go.
