If you know of anyone stealing benefits you can contact the National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440. Your call is free and confidential, you do not have to give your name or address. Lines are open Monday to Friday 08.00 to 18.00
Alternatively you can report a benefit thief online
If you have speech or hearing problems you can use a text phone service on 0800 328 0512
If your circumstances have changed
If you deliberately fail to report a change in your personal circumstances you are treated as having committed benefit fraud. If you're prosecuted for benefit fraud you could be fined or get a prison sentence.
Contact the office that pays your benefit now to let them know about any changes that affect your claim. For tax credits go to www.gov.uk/search?q=tax+credits and if you receive Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit, remember to tell your local council as well.
It’s not if we catch you, it’s when. And when we do, you could face a prison sentence.
