The Tamarind Centre provides a holistic health and wellbeing support service for BME communities. Their main aims are to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues for black and minority ethnic communities, aid the recovery process and reduce isolation and depression.
Tamarind provide a range of mental health support to individuals including outreach, advocacy, visits at the Caludon Centre and support with consultant psychiatrist appointments, support with emotional wellbeing and advice and information. A person centred one to one culturally sensitive counselling service is offered in a confidential and secure environment, with a choice of male or female counsellors and which is available to speakers of other languages.
Tamarind provides day opportunities offering a range of services, supporting individuals in their homes or out in the community. Tamarind also provides:
- BME mental health awareness training for professionals and students
- Gender specific groups and activities
- Special interest days
- Carers support and coffee mornings
- Alternative therapy and health awareness sessions.
