In Coventry, children can attend a nursery class attached to a primary school the September after their third birthday ( some schools offer termly intakes in Autumn, Spring and Summer - please ask the school for details).
Some nursery classes may offer places to 2 year olds/rising 3's so please contact your preferred schools to check
Nursery classes/school do not have a catchment area this is because not all schools in the city have a nursery class attached to them and some parents choose not to send their child to a preschool setting.
How to apply for a nursery class place
It is advisable to contact your preferred nursery class at least a year before your child will start. Parents/carers need to be aware that it does not matter how early an application is submitted, the place will be allocated against the school's selection criteria.
To apply for a nursery class/school place parents/carers must contact their preferred nursery class/school directly - admission to nursery class is not dealt with by the schools admissions team .
Parents/carers will be given a form to complete and information about how selection for a nursery class/school place is made at their preferred school. It is important for parents/carers to understand that although there is no catchment area for nursery classes; due to the high level of demand for spaces, schools will have their own selection criteria which will differ at each school.
If you are unsuccessful in securing a place, do not contact the school's admissions department as they have no input into nursery class/school allocation of places.
IMPORTANT : Attending a nursery class at a specific school does not guarantee a place at the reception class at the same school.
At Whoberley Hall, children can start our Nursery class at three points of entry across the year – the September, January and April after their third birthday.
We are a small community school with a family ethos at its heart.
We believe in showing our pupils unconditional positive regard at all times.
Our aim is to foster self-esteem and encourage our pupils to forge forwards with confidence, aiming high.
We are sincerely committed to the idea that if you believe, then you can achieve. We recognise that everyone has a skill or talent that they can be proud of.
Although Whoberley Hall Primary School is based within an urban area, we are very lucky to have extensive grounds. We have an allotment, pond, amphitheatre, football pitch, netball courts and a recently established Forest School area. Our exciting curriculum is delivered in a variety of ways, including utilising these outdoor areas.
Pupils and staff are so very proud of our school. We genuinely believe that at Whoberley Hall we provide an excellent, rounded education for our pupils. This in turn equips pupils with skills and knowledge for life.
Our Nursery class is led by a qualified teacher and supported by qualified teaching assistants. Nursery children also mix with our Reception children and staff, as we have a dedicated Early Years unit. Together we provide an enjoyable, stimulating, happy and safe environment in which the children thrive, ready for entry to school.
Staff work hard to plan activities with the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum as the basis. Themes and resources are carefully selected to take into account the interest of the children. Monitoring and observations inform next steps for each child and parents are informed and involved in their child’s learning journey through the use of Tapestry, an online tool.
