ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages at Henley College

We teach ESOL at many centres in Coventry and at flexible times to suit you.


What will I study?


You will study speaking, listening, reading and writing in English. Your teacher will help you to write an Individual Learning Plan for what you want to learn. You will learn English in real life situations and methods will include individual work, group work, pair work, surveys, role plays, discussion and presentations. In class you will use a range of materials such as CD's, tapes, videos, worksheets, games and computers. All classes include citizenship.


How will I be assessed?


You will have regular tutorials with your teacher to assess your progress. You will also have the opportunity to enter for a Cambridge Skills for Life Qualification in Listening, Speaking, Reading or Writing. You may also take a National Literacy test Level 1 or Level 2.


What are the entry requirements?


You will have a test to assess your levels in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

You will also be required to provide proof that you are eligible for classes.

(Passport, home office documents, proof of benefits/NASS letter and last month's bank statement)


What can I progress to?


You will be able to progress to the next level or to enrol for Further Education courses.


Your classes would be FREE if you are:

  •  Aged 16years upward
  • An Asylum Seeker without leave to remain, you must prove that 1) Home Office has taken longer than 6 months to assess your case AND 2) be receiving NASS Support
  • Need-first letter recieved when entered the country, letter stating in receipt of NASS support copy of ARC card(back and front) and a receipt from post office when claiming NASS support


Funding for childcare and travel expenses may be available depending on circumstances
