Complex Physical Health Services
The Service works with children with complex physical health needs in a variety of settings, e.g. homes, schools and short break. We provide specialist nursing care, training and support. We accept referrals from hospitals, schools and other agencies, and in some cases directly from parents of children who are registered with a Coventry GP.
All children will have a named nurse who will work with families and other professionals to meet the children’s complex health needs. We aim to enable children to be discharged from hospital sooner, and to prevent admissions where possible. We support their attendance at school and other care settings by delivering care ourselves or training and supporting carers.
The service has a specialist Respiratory Nurse, Specialist Palliative Care nurse and Specialist Epilepsy nurse supporting children with these needs.
A Play specialist works with children to support them with difficulties around their treatment and to support children and their families facing the end of their life. This includes support for brothers and sisters.
A clinical education team support the training of staff and carers both within the team and in other agencies involved in the child’s care.
