What is this course about?
The sessions are focused on how as parents we can support our family to be happy, encouraging and calm. We start off with some theory on parenting and family units, then look at practical examples focused on raising happy, safe and secure children. Ideas we focus on include rewards, consequences, rules and expectations. We also share ideas for having fun with learning focusing on early reading and number.
What will I learn?
The sessions will be fun and practical with lots of information, activities, and resources for you to use at home.
How will I learn?
There will be class discussions and interactive activities to support your learning.
How will my learning be assessed?
You will improve your knowledge and skills so that you can move onto a Functional Skills course. There is no formal assessment on Family Learning courses, but we will help you access the sessions by:
• Email communication with the tutor
• Working through the methods taught in school
Entry requirements:
You need to be a parent / grandparent / carer of a child at Primary School in Coventry (aged 3-11). Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. When the course is full, no other enrolments can take place. To enable you to fully access the information and activities on this course you will need to be confident in Speaking and Listening at E2.
If you have a pre-school aged child, then our ‘Wider Family Learning’ course may be more suitable. These are courses where children and their carers attend together, like stay and play sessions. Our ‘English and Maths in the primary school’ courses explain the ways these subjects are taught in modern British primary schools.
What materials will I need?
Resources will be provided at the venue.
