Family Group Conferencing
You and your child, or a child close to you, have been offered a Family Group Conference because there are concerns about that child that need attention.
A Family Group Conference (FGC) brings children and families together so that they can talk about what is going on and to find solutions to problems that they and their children are facing, within a professionally supportive framework.
They recognise that the people best placed to sort problems out are those most closely involved with the family.
A co-ordinator who helps arrange the FGC will come and see you. (S)he will be there to speak to you about who you would like to be at the meeting, and where and when you would like it held. (S)he will speak to your child to ask him/her the same questions and to make sure, as far as possible, that everyone is happy with the arrangements.
Family doesn’t have to be just mum, dad, brothers and sisters. It can be grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, step-families and close family friends. It is a group made up of the important people in your lives. The aim of the meeting is for you, your child and your family group, to put together a plan that will hopefully sort out the problems that are causing concern.
