Barry Phillips

I childmind with my wife who is also a registered childminder. We offer a family environment with a male and female perspective and provide a wide variety of activities such as cooking, artwork, messy activities etc. The children have access to 4 computers and an overhead projector linked to a 'smart' board which enables the home education programmes from early years settings to key stage 3 to be enjoyed and used by all.

First and foremost a play situation is provided and children encouraged to develop all apects of socialisation, self control, courtesy and consideration towards others and correct speech. Apparatus and equipment is plentiful and designed to develop language skills and hand to eye co-ordination.

Our service provides a firm, broad and stable basis on which to build for your childs future. We offer a cookery school for older children and cooking experiences for younger children, (My wife is a qualified chef). They take home family meals they have cooked learning about healthy foods with no additives, preservatives, and food chain traceability. I have been a childminder for 12 years and my wife for 35 years. We both have completed Paediatric First Aid, Peal training. Fresh approaches to behaviour and relationships and Implementing the Early Years Foundation stage, and WellComm speech and language screening to identify communication difficulties. We are also Forest Child Carers - the 5 principle of which are:

1. The Forest childcare provider takes the children to an outdoor environment normally once a week.

2. Forest childcare outings are made as safe as is reasonably possible while encouraging children to learn to take risks.

3. Forest childcare outings are taken throughout the year to experience all seasons and weather.

4. The Forest childcare provider offers a mixture of planned and child-led play activities for the children.

5. The Forest childcare provider is First Aid certified.

We have an enclosed garden that the children can access whenever they want for play, growing vegetables and flowers, and of course messy activities. Around us there are numerous outstanding parks, playgrounds, woodlands and nature reserves. Our large allotment is in easy walking distance with it's traffic free paths and lanes enabling the children to explore and learn about the 'great outdoors'. We have found that many children find the countryside intimidating, and need to learn about it to feel more at ease.
