Grapevine helps people with learning disabilities to get the life they want – to make their own choices and be part of their community. We want to reduce the isolation that so many people with learning disabilities experience. Too many people spend their lives in residential and day care. But Grapevine has the experience and knowledge to help people make connections and have a life in the ordinary world .It's what we do.
What Grapevine does?
Advocacy – our advocates help people to get their voice heard if, for example, they want to move home, have a formal meeting or have suffered abuse or neglect
Self Advocacy – our team supports people to find their own voice, to campaign and have more of a say in their services.
Connecting People – we find out what people love to do and what their strengths are. We get to know local people and communities. Then we try to link people with opportunities in their area.
Going Out – we help people to plan and have nights out with their friends – at a nightclub, restaurant or cinema, for example.
Person – centred planning – we listen to what people want in their lives and bring everyone together to create a plan and make it happen; family, friends, community members and services
Staying healthy – we support people to have better health through, for example, sports buddies, healthy lifestyles training and easy to understand information.
Work with young people – we have all kinds of projects with young people – club nights and DJ training, for example, one long – running project, Get in, is about young people meeting new friends and getting involved in local youth projects.
Family Support – when we work with young people, we also work with their families, for example, offering support and guidance on rights and entitlements and setting up practical support groups.
Grapevine also provides training and consultancy and provides a number of publications.
